Aligarh: In the Indian city of Aligah, a municipal board supported by the ruling BJP has approved a contract to change the name of Aligarh to “Hari Nagar.” This agreement is now awaiting final approval from the state government. Before this, the state government has changed the names of several cities that were associated with Muslim names.
After the municipal board’s approval of the contract, the mayor of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Parshant Singhal, stated that changing the city’s name to “Hari Nagar” was a recommendation presented by a BJP member of the board, which has been unanimously approved.
He mentioned that the demand to change the name of Aligarh to Hari Garh has been ongoing for a while. He said, “We are proposing to change the name to continue our ancient culture and tradition, the tradition of Hinduism.”
He expressed hope that soon the city would be known as Hari Garh. It’s worth noting that “Hari” is one of the names of the Hindu deity Lord Krishna.
A BJP leader, Neeraj Sharma, had been campaigning for a long time to change the name of Aligarh to Hari Gadh. He referred to the approval of the name change agreement, saying, “Hari is a historical name. This name is associated with the local culture and Hindu traditions. Aligarh became a Muslim University in 1920; it wasn’t like this before. So what could be better? If the children of Hari don’t get Hari Gadh, will the children of Saudi Arabia get it, or Kazakhstan, or Pakistan?”
A young man from the city, Hyder Khan, is not happy with this agreement of the municipal board.
