Gwadar: Security forces have arrested central leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Farooq Habib, along with eight other individuals in Gwadar. According to a report in Dawn newspaper, Balochistan’s Caretaker Minister for Information, Jan Achakzai, confirmed the arrest of PTI leaders and other individuals.Officials revealed that Farooq Habib arrived in Gwadar and was staying at a local hotel. Upon receiving information about the presence of PTI leaders, security personnel, dressed in plain clothes, conducted a raid and apprehended Farooq Habib and eight other individuals. Farooq Habib, who is the PTI leader and was previously the Federal Minister for Information and the President of PTI’s South Punjab chapter, was among those detained.
The arrested individuals, including Farooq Habib’s brother and sister, were transferred to an undisclosed location after their arrest. Jan Achakzai informed Dawn that PTI leader Farooq Habib, along with his brother, sister, and six others, had arrived in Gwadar to travel to Iran.
After transferring Farooq Habib’s brother and sister to an undisclosed location, the Gwadar police released all six other individuals on bail following initial investigations.
In strong condemnation of these developments, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf expressed its outrage and labeled it an abduction of PTI’s central leader, Farooq Habib. They called on the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take immediate notice of this attempt to undermine legality through state-sponsored abductions and illegal actions to suppress PTI’s leadership, especially in light of the upcoming general elections.
PTI’s spokesperson asserted that under the guise of a state operation, malicious attempts to eliminate and abduct PTI leaders were being made, as they were apprehensive of PTI’s growing popularity in the country. They emphasized that, based on the foundation of political revenge, fake and concocted cases were rendered ineffective by the courts, and state machinery was being used to support forced disappearances and abductions of PTI leaders.
