Tripoli: The number of casualties from the devastating floods in eastern Libya is continuously increasing, with the coastal city of Derna being the hardest-hit. The mayor of Derna says that the death toll could reach up to 20,000.Abdulmunem Al-Ghaithi, speaking to Al Arabiya TV, stated that these estimates are based on the population of the area completely destroyed by the floods in the city. Following heavy rains resulting from Cyclone Daniel, more than 5,000 people have been confirmed dead due to the flooding of two dams, with over 10,000 people still missing.
