New York : Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar addressed the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, demanding that extremism, including Hindu extremism, and all forms of terrorism be combated, and Kashmir be made the foundation of peace between Pakistan and India.Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar, speaking at the General Assembly, stated that we are at a delicate juncture in modern history, with ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and numerous disputes in 50 other countries, and increasing tensions among global powers. He emphasized that at such a time, new and old military blocs and geopolitical agendas should take a backseat, with the economy taking priority.He argued that the world cannot afford another cold war, as it poses even more dangerous challenges, requiring global cooperation and joint actions. He mentioned that the global economy is in decline, the worst interest rates can disrupt markets, conflicts and climate change have devastated many countries’ economies, and several nations are on the brink of bankruptcy. Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar stated that poverty and hunger have increased, and the benefits of three decades of development have been eroded. He stressed the need for sustainable development goals to be achieved to ensure stability.He also pledged Pakistan’s commitment to fulfill the promises made in COP 28 regarding climate change, stating that Pakistan is spending billions annually on climate change. He mentioned that Pakistan is one of the worst-hit countries by climate change, with one-third of the country submerged in last year’s floods, resulting in the loss of over 1,700 lives, leaving more than 80 lakh people homeless, causing damage to infrastructure, and a loss of over 30 billion dollars to the economy.Prime Minister Kakar said that Pakistan is committed to the revival and reconstruction program, with more than 10.5 billion dollars pledged. He expressed hope that our development partners would prioritize funding for our recovery program, which has incurred a loss of more than 30 billion dollars.
