Mumbai: In the World Cup 2023, Australia, with Glenn Maxwell’s record-breaking double century, defeated Afghanistan, securing victory by 3 wickets and qualifying for the semi-finals. The match was played at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, where Afghanistan won the toss and chose to bat first.
Afghan openers provided their team with a strong start, contributing 38 runs. The aggressive all-rounder Rashid, with just 128 deliveries, played an innings of 201 runs with the help of 10 sixes and 21 boundaries, guiding his team to the semi-finals.
On Afghanistan’s side, Naveen, Rashid, and Azmatullah took two wickets each. Following this defeat, reaching the semi-finals has become extremely challenging for Afghanistan, and their progress to the next stage will also depend on the run rate, even if they win their upcoming match against South Africa.
