Islamabad: The leader of the Public Muslim League and former federal interior minister, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, has been arrested from a private housing society in Rawalpindi and transferred to an undisclosed location .Sheikh Rashid’s lawyer, Advocate Sardar Abdul Razzaq Khan, confirmed the arrest during a conversation with Dawn.com, stating that Sheikh Rashid was apprehended by people wearing plain clothes from his house in a private housing society and taken away in civilian clothes. He mentioned that the police have also arrested Sheikh Rashid’s nephew, Sheikh Shakir, and employee Imran, and they have all been moved to an undisclosed location after their arrest.Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has also confirmed Sheikh Rashid’s arrest on their social media accounts.Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, the head of the Public Muslim League and an ally of PTI Chairman, had been missing from the public eye since the events of May 9. His arrest comes at a time when a state crackdown against PTI and its supporters is ongoing across the country in connection with the May 9 incidents.In June last year, Sheikh Rashid had accused Islamabad police of breaking into his house, beating his servants, and had also alleged that plainclothes personnel had targeted the employees of his Lal Haveli residence in Rawalpindi in a separate incident.
